The islands of the Philippines are home to a vast array of fighting arts, which have been tested in battle for centuries. The most common varieties of these arts are Eskrima, Arnis and Kali. Within these categories are thousands of fighting styles and systems. Each of these systems has their own strengths and weaknesses and although these systems are mostly known for their weaponry skills they also contain a very sophisticated empty hand element.

Filipino Martial Arts at Team Phoenix draws from several Systems of Kali, Arnis and Eskrima, as well as a variety of closely tied Indonesian systems of Silat. The main focus at Team Phoenix is the Balicki method of Kali and Lameco Eskrima and the I.K.A.E.F. (International Kali Arnis Eskrima Federation).

Students training in the Filipino Martial arts at Team Phoenix can expect to learn techniques in weaponry, Kickboxing (Sikaran), Boxing (panantukan), Trapping (Kadena De Mano) and Grappling (Dumog). The weaponry taught at Team Phoenix includes single stick and single sword, (and the difference between the use of a blunt instrument and a bladed weapon). Double stick and sword, Stick/sword and dagger, single dagger, double dagger, pocket stick, staff, sarong and whip.

Skills gained through a wide variety of drills and games will bring an enhanced development of ones coordination, dexterity and timing. As well as bringing a wide variety of technical material Filipino Martial Arts training at Team Phoenix is also a great cardio vascular workout. It is also a very practical method of self defense against the rising tide of todays weapon carrying culture.

At Team Phoenix students will be graded in the Phoenix Kali Blend curriculum
